Welcome to Discovery Crew! We are excited for a fun-filled summer. Listed below are a few things to help the summer run smoothly. Our parent handbook is available online at www.prparks.org. Please read thoroughly, and if you have further questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
Camp Lunch Program: (Link)
Campers can choose from a variety of items including sandwiches, pizza, pasta and more all prepared by Spuntino's Pizza and delivered directly to your child's campsite. Lunch orders are due the Wednesday prior to each week.
Camp utilizes Centennial Aquatic Center approximately 2-3 afternoons per week if weather permits. The weather is never certain, so send your camper to camp each day ready to go swimming. Campers should bring a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen on a daily basis. The Supervisor and the Recreation Program Division Manager determine if campers go swimming if the weather is questionable. Lifeguards assess the campers' swimming ability on the first trip to the pool. Please check the weekly calendar sent to your email each week for specific swimming days.
We fish/pond dip weekly unless there is a conflict with a field trip. Campers are encouraged to bring their own pole (labeled with their name) on fishing days. If they do not have a pole, Wildwood has fishing poles to borrow. Camp also provides bait, or the campers can bring their own bait if they wish. Fishing typically takes place on Mondays, unless there is a field trip or special event. Please check your camp calendar each week for specific fishing days and times.
BBQ Lunch Days (optional)
BBQ lunch is a fun weekly option. Campers cook their own food over the campfire (or staff cook on the grill if necessary). BBQ lunch is optional; to participate, campers bring a grill-able item from home (burger, brat, hotdog, etc.) to be cooked at camp, along with a bun. Food needs to be labeled with the child’s name, and ready to be stored in the fridge (in Tupperware or ziplock). Make sure your camper is aware that there is food in their backpack. If campers do not want to participate, please send them with a regular lunch. BBQ lunch varies days or might not occur that week if there is a field trip or special event. Please check your camp calendar each week for specific BBQ/Campfire days and times.
We go on four field trips during the summer. On field trip days campers must wear their camp t-shirt. Please be sure to be at camp on time, as the buses for the field trips depart on schedule. A general field trip form must be filled out prior to the field trip. This form lists all possible field trip days for the summer for each specific camp. Certain field trips, like canoeing or rock climbing, require two additional waivers. Field trip forms and waivers can be found online, are emailed to you prior to the field trip, are available at the Camp Info Meeting, and are available at your camp site.
- Backpacks: It is important that they bring their own (as opposed to sharing) and that they can carry it. It will be used to hold their lunches, water bottles, etc.
- Water Bottle: Buses can get hot, so campers should bring a water bottle that fits in their backpack.
