Preventative measures addressing COVID-19 concerns

The Park Ridge Park District wanted to let you know about the steps that are being taken by the District to control the spread of the COVID-19 (commonly known as coronavirus.) All of the facilities continue to be on an aggressive program of disinfection which includes an upgraded schedule of disinfecting doorknobs, handrails and grab rails and the placement of additional antiseptic wipes and/or hand sanitizers at all facilities. The District has been working with the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) to determine best practices for controlling the spread of infectious disease.

Lawn Care Practice Special Meeting

The Park Ridge Park District is committed to ensuring the public is safe in all that we do. Recently, we have become aware that questions have come up about some of the lawn care products we are using. 

It is our responsibility to be transparent and provide education about the District’s business. President Harrington stated, “to devote the appropriate amount of time to the issue, as current Board President, it is my intention to call a Special Board Meeting on November 14th to discuss our current District lawn care practices. A special meeting will give this subject matter the time and transparency it deserves.” We welcome anyone who would like to learn more about this topic to join us on November 14 at 7:00pm.

New Playground Opens at Northeast Park

New Playground Opens at Northeast Park

On Saturday, June 15, the Park District Board of Commissioners along with staff and community members celebrated the grand opening of the new playground at Northeast Park. The project includes a playground for 2-5 year olds, an Alpha Tower playground for 5-12 year olds, a spinner, swings, infant swings, shaded seating area, pathways, and a rain garden for storm water detention.

John Tunnell Appointed to Park Board

John Tunnell was sworn in and took the Oath of Office at the February 20 Board meeting. Commissioner Tunnell was appointed to a two-year term to fill the vacant seat of Commissioner Janak. His term will run 2019-2021. We welcome Commissioner Tunnell to the Board.

Park Ridge Park District Receives GFOA Finance Award

The Park Ridge Park District has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the Park District and its management. This is the 36th consecutive year the Park District has received the award.

The award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to Sandra DeAngelus, Superintendent of Finance at the Park Ridge Park District, as being primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR.) However, DeAngelus stated, “Everyone on the Finance team contributes to achieving this award. This honor is shared with my staff and the District as a whole.” 

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 19,000 government officials and finance professionals with headquarters in Chicago, IL.

Candidate Packets are now available for persons who wish to run for office of Park Board Commissioner in the April 2, 2019 Consolidated Election. The Candidate Packet is available for pick-up at Prospect Park – Wohler’s Hall, Maryanne Lucarz, 733 N. Prospect Avenue during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Packets are provided as a courtesy; candidates are not required or obligated to use the information provided and should seek the advice and direction of their own personal attorney. Santee Named Ice Sports Industry’s 2018 Man of the Year

At the annual Ice Sports Industry (ISI) awards luncheon held on Thursday, June 7 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Oakbrook, David Santee was presented with the prestigious ISI Man of the Year Award. The Man of the Year Award honors someone who has made significant contributions to the ISI and its programs and purposes during the past year. Santee is also the Skating Director at the Park District's Oakton Ice Arena.
