Jaycee Park Tennis & Basketball Courts

The full replacement of the tennis and basketball courts at Jaycee Park is currently in progress. Please visit this page of our website for updates.

UPDATES:

September 13, 2022 - The tennis courts and basketball court are completed and open to the public. There are still some final details to be completed, such as installing of benches, adding the tennis windscreens, and mowing the grass in the area. Staff also still needs to do our final walk through with the contractor. But, we wanted to make these amenities available to the public as soon as we were able. Thank you for your patience during the project.

September 1, 2022 - The color coating was delayed due to the rain that occured the week of August 22. The contractor is now scheduled to complete the color coat the week of September 6.

August 18, 2022 - The color coat will be applied the week of August 22. Once completed, the net and basketball goal will be installed and the landscape restored before opening to the public.

August 4, 2022 - The courts are paved and the tennis court fencing has been installed. The asphalt needs to cure a couple more weeks before the color coat can be applied. Once that is complete, the project will wrap up fairly quickly with net and basketball goal installation and landscape restoration.

July 14, 2022 - Despite the current material producers strike, our contractor was able to locate and secure the necessary materials needed to move the project forward. The contractor has been onsite finishing grading and pouring concrete curb for the courts. They are set to pave the courts on Tuesday, July 19, weather permitting. Once the paving is complete, fencing and landscaping will take place. Please be aware, the asphalt needs to cure for 30 days prior to color coating. We are estimating the courts will be open for play towards the end of summer.

June 23, 2022 - The project is being delayed due to the current union strike between material producers of Local 150 and 3 of the major corporations that own the quarries and material yards in Chicagoland. The strike against these major producers is impacting construction projects across the region and has impacted the availability of construction materials such as cement, construction aggregates (crushed stone, sand, and gravel), and asphalt. These materials are integral to the next steps of our project and the contractor cannot proceed until the strike is resolved because the materials needed are not available.

June 2, 2022 - The storm sewer work is complete, and the rain gardens have been excavated. The contractor is beginning to layout the project and once that is complete, they will set final grades and prepare for pavement.

May 27, 2022 - The storm sewer system is being installed this week.

May 20, 2022 - The permit approval indicated some changes to the plans, and those changes were incorporated into the construction documents this week. Work is scheduled to resume on Monday with the installation of the storm sewer system. The project is on track to be completed by August.

May 13, 2022 - The clearing and demolition phase of the project is completed, and the next step is installation of storm sewer.

May 4, 2022 - The project commenced today! Construction fencing was erected. This week the existing fencing, basketball goals and net posts will be demolated. The contractor will also grind the existing asphalt and begin sewer work.

July 16, 2021 - SmithGroup, our project engineer for the tennis and basketball courts replacement, is developing the schematic drainage plan for the project site. During this process, it was determined that some key information on the City atlases and maps are missing data. The project team is coordinating with the City on this missing data. The project is expected to be out to bid in the fall/winter of 2021 and construction will begin in 2022.
