Santee Named Ice Sports Industry’s 2018 Man of the Year

At the annual Ice Sports Industry (ISI) awards luncheon held on Thursday, June 7 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Oakbrook, David Santee was presented with the prestigious ISI Man of the Year Award. The Man of the Year Award honors someone who has made significant contributions to the ISI and its programs and purposes during the past year.

ISI representatives stated that Santee works tirelessly to give back to the industry that he loves, consistently presenting at conferences and district seminars whenever possible. He mentors new coaches and tries to instill his philosophy of participation and inclusion in the often-elitist world of competitive skating. He is a fantastic ambassador to the sport of figure skating and continues to exemplify the values he preaches day in and day out.

As a full-time coach and program director at Park Ridge Park District’s Oakton Ice Arena, he has instructed just about every level of skater, from beginner and adults to ISI FS10 skaters and U.S. Figure Skating international competitors.

Santee is a two-time Olympian and World silver medalist. His career highlights include: ISI Hall of Famer, U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Famer, 1981 World silver medalist, seven-time U.S. World team member, two-time Olympian (4th place in men’s singles in 1980), youngest male to win U.S. Junior Championship, and 13-time U.S. medalist, ranking 3rd all time.
