General Information

The Park Ridge Park District offers a variety of camp programs for ages 3-15. From swimming to sports, crafts to canoeing, we’ve got it all to make this the best summer yet! Our general camps and specialty camps keep kids busy and cater to a variety of specific interests, such as sports, technology, art, or dance.

Programs

3200204 / Camp Mini Marshmallow

Get out and explore! Enjoy outdoor hikes, nature and animal themes, discovery, water play, story time, arts and crafts, and experiments. Children must be completely toilet trained by the first day of camp. Camp will be held primarily outdoors, and head inside in the event of inclement weather.

3200209 / Little Explorers Camp

Little Explorers is the perfect program to introduce young children to their first camp experience. Through games and activities, your camper learns the importance of sharing, listening and cooperation. Campers keep busy doing arts and crafts, songs and circle time, outside play and water time fun. Professional entertainment is provided several weeks throughout the summer! Campers can pre-order hot lunch or bring a nut-free lunch to camp. Children must be age appropriate by the first day of the camp week. • Water play includes: portable pools, sprinklers and water tables • Apply sunscreen before coming to camp. • Bring a nut-free morning snack, lunch, water bottle, spare set of clothes, swimsuit, towel, water shoes, and extra sunscreen daily • Children must be completely toilet trained (no pull ups/diapers) • Camper to Staff Ratio: 6:1 • Location: Maine Park Leisure Center Preschool Wing

Looking for to extend your preschoolers camp day S'MORE? Explore at Wildwood, go on outdoor hikes, and dive into nature and animal themes each week. Children must be completely toilet trained by the first day of camp. Camp will be held primarily outdoors, and head inside in the event of inclement weather. If attending a morning camp that ends at 1:30pm at Maine Park, camp staff will escort your child to Camp S’more, located in the same building. Age for camp is age as of the first day of each session.

Camp Curiosity is the perfect fit for kids who will be attending 4-year-old preschool in the fall. Campers enjoy weekly themes, outdoor adventures, games, arts and crafts, music, and outdoor waterplay. Water play activities include our portable pools, sprinklers, and water tables. Professional entertainment is provided several weeks throughout the summer! Campers can pre-order hot lunch or bring a nut-free lunch to camp. Participants are divided into two groups. 3200208 / Kickoff to Kindergarten Camp

Kickoff to Kindergarten Camp is an excellent camp offering a wide variety of activities for your soon-to-be-kindergartener. Camp runs a full, jam-packed day. We explore weekly themes through games, sports, crafts, activities, and even bring in professional entertainment. Campers are divided into 3 rooms. All groups will have playground time and water play together. Water play will take place each afternoon while kids play in the sprinklers, portable pools, and water tables. Please bring a towel, water shoes and a change of clothes each day. Campers can pre-order hot lunch or bring a nut-free lunch to camp. Campers must also bring a refillable water bottle and nut-free snack each day.

Hike the woods and prairie, fish in the ponds, cook over the campfire, and enjoy games, experiments, nature study, live animals, and projects. Learn about the world indoors and out, being green, and most importantly, how to have fun in nature! Nature and Science theme weeks, and a field trip or special event each week such as animal shows, science shows, archery, canoeing, and rock climbing, round out the adventure. Each week Nature Camp also tie-dyes, cooks over a campfire, hikes the Des Plaines River Trail, goes fishing and pond dipping, and plays Zombie Tag. Separate camp rooms for Ages 6-7 (Youngers), Ages 8-9 (Juniors), Ages 10-12 (Olders). • Swimming at Centennial Aquatic Center (approx. 2-3 times a week) for Nature Camp Youngers and Nature Camp Juniors; Swimming at Hinkley Pool and Centennial Aquatic Center (approx. 2-3 times a week) for Nature Camp Olders • Apply sunscreen before coming to camp. Bring a nut-free lunch and snack in a reusable container, water bottle, swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen daily. Hike the woods and prairie, fish in the ponds, cook over the campfire, and enjoy games, experiments, nature study, Zombie tag, tye dye, live animals, and projects. Learn about the world indoors and out, being green, and most importantly, how to have fun in nature! Separate rooms and schedules for Ages 6-8 (Youngers) and Ages 9-11 (Olders). Note: If you sign up for multiple options in the same week, campers will repeat activities and events/field trips. Discovery Crew is scheduled to make sure the children receive a similar experience for the 2 or 3 day option they enroll in. (For example, if a field trip or activity is scheduled on Monday for the M/W/F campers, and the same field trip or activity is scheduled on Tuesday for the and Tu/Th campers). • Swimming at Centennial Aquatic Center (approx. 1-2 times a week) • Apply sunscreen before coming to camp. The Counselor in Training program provides a unique opportunity to develop skills necessary for working with children in a hands-on environment. C.I.T.'s are involved in daily activities assisting camp staff with camp projects, activities, and lesson plans. C.I.T.'s must be 13 years of age by the first day of camp. Here are the steps to becoming a C.I.T. 1. Informational packets are emailed in late April. Packets should be completed and brought with you to your interview. 2. In May, prospective C.I.T.'s are contacted to schedule an interview. Bring all paperwork, along with three goals of what you would like to learn through this program. 3. Once the interviews are complete, C.I.T.'s are notified of their status. Those selected need to attend the mandatory orientation. After the orientation, staff determines placement based on the C.I.T.’s schedule and availability. C.I.T.'s are not placed in older grade camps. A refund is issued if you are not accepted. C.I.T. Orientation (Mandatory) - Thursday, May 22, 6:00pm-8:00pm at MPLC.

All Star Sports will email participants regarding what sports and personal equipment each player will need for the day. Chicago Union runs this week-long camp designed to introduce kids to Ultimate Frisbee while providing a legendary experience! Ultimate is a non-contact, action-packed sport played with a flying disc (Frisbee) where players pass the disc from one player to the next until someone catches it in the opponent’s end zone for a goal, worth one point. Our EVP coaches will train your experienced athlete in the 2-person and 4-person formats of beach volleyball. Athletes will be paired with other athletes who have a similar skill set and compete in daily tournaments. The sand, wind and sun add a whole new dimension. This program is for experienced players only. Also, remember to bring your swim gear for short water breaks!
