Exciting news! The Park Ridge Park District received a $21,884 Urban and Community Forestry Grant to improve our urban forest. The project includes removing 0.6 acres of invasive Buckthorn from Maine Park and planting new trees throughout the District to ensure long-term canopy retention and growth. This past week, 33 trees were planted across seven of our parks (Brickton, Maine, Northeast, Ridge, Hodges, Cumberland, and Francis), enhancing our urban forest and advancing the District’s Master Tree Planting Plan.
Funding for this project was provided by the Urban and Community Forestry Programs of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and USDA Forest Service Eastern Region. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. These funds are administered by The Morton Arboretum’s Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI).
